Super Electric Car : Ariel Atom Wrightspeed X1: 0-60 mph in 3.07s

March 31st, 2012 admin

The Ariel Atom Wrightspeed X1 is an Ariel Atom sports car heavily modified to use an all-electric powertrain. The Atom was chosen for its light weight and efficient design.

The electric motor and inverter are sourced from AC Propulsion, makers of the TZero concept car, while the batteries are low weight, high energy density lithium ion provided from A123 Systems. As with the Atom the transmission is a Honda unit, but stripped of its shifting mechanism and other parts to provide only the second gear speed, allowed by the wide speed and torque range available from the electric motor.

Ariel Atom Wrightspeed X1 Built by San Francisco-based New Zealand engineer Ian Wright, the X1 created a stir when it bested several sports cars in a drag race, including a Carrera GT (though with a rolling start, a disadvantage for the gas burning vehicles), all while being filmed by local news station KRON 4. Despite the impressive performance, the vehicle is intended only as a proof of concept. Future production is planned; however, according to the website, “… the production car will be quite different, since it will meet the safety standards, which the prototype does not. It will, however, be at least as quick as the prototype.” Mr. Wright was an early employee of electric-car company Tesla Motors, but soon left to pursue his own ideas.

The car debuted with a factory suggested retail price of approximately US$400,000, although some buyers were reported as paying as much as US$1.6 million. A total of 1,315 F40s were produced.

Power came from an enlarged, 2.9 L (2936 cc) version of the GTO’s twin IHI turbocharged V8 developing 478 PS (352 kW; 471 hp) under 110 kPa (16 psi) of boost. The F40 did without a catalytic converter until 1990 when US regulations made them a requirement for emissions control reasons. Super Car : Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3

March 25th, 2012 admin

Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3The Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3 is designed to be a modern 300SL Gullwing revival. The car has a long bonnet, the passenger compartment is close to the rear axle and the rear of the car is short. The SLS AMG will also adapt the feature of wing doors that will swing open upwards on gas struts, not in a mix of upwards and forward like the SLR. The doors must be closed manually as AMG engineers decided against auto-closing systems because the systems would have added 90 pounds (41 kg) to the car. In case of a roll-over, the doors can be fully detached to allow the occupants to leave the vehicle.

The Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3 has an engine of 6.3 liters. The materials used for the construction of this unit are all light weight and of the highest quality. Because of this, the car accelerates with ease as it reaches a top speed of 186 miles per hour. The brakes, suspensions, and aerodynamics went through a series of modifications in order to achieve the best performance.

Super Car : McLaren F1

March 19th, 2012 admin

Mc Laren F1The McLaren F1 is a sports car designed and manufactured by Gordon Murray and McLaren Automotive. On 31 March 1998, it set the record for the fastest production car in the world, 240 mph (391 km/h). As of April 2009, the F1 is surpassed by only four other production cars in sheer top speed, but is still the fastest naturally aspirated production car.

The car features numerous proprietary designs and technologies. It is lighter and has a more streamlined structure than even most of its modern rivals and competitors despite having one seat more than most similar sports cars, with the driver’s seat located in the middle. It features a powerful engine and is somewhat track oriented, but not to the degree that it compromises everyday usability and comfort.

It was conceived as an exercise in creating what its designers hoped would be considered the ultimate road car. Despite not having been designed as a track machine, a modified race car edition of the vehicle won several races, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995, where it faced purpose-built prototype race cars. Production began in 1992 and ended in 1998. In all, 106 cars were manufactured, with some variations in the design.
